In the latest Get a Mac television commercial, Apple proclaims the new notebooks as "the greenest family of notebooks ever made". The ad touts the Macbook many harmful toxins eliminated, highly recyclable, more energy efficient and reduced packaging.

The new Macbook has environmental-friendly features such as arsenic-free glass, mercury-free LED-backlit display, brominated flame retardant-free internal components, PVC-free internal cables, highly recyclable aluminium and glass enclosure and has up to 41 percent smaller packaging.

Even though the folks at Apple has done so much to make sure that their products environmental-friendly, they still earned an overall score of only 4.3 according to Greenpeace. This means that Apple is currently in the "bad" zone. The top 3 companies includes Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba whereas the bottom 3 are Lenovo, Microsoft and Nintendo.

According to Apple in their new environmental update:"Apple is on track to eliminate harmful toxic chemicals from our products. In the 2008 Environmental Update, Steve Jobs provides an overview on Apple’s progress to eliminate mercury and arsenic from displays and brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) from internal components. Steve Jobs also talks about Apple’s policy on climate change, steps taken to improve product energy-efficiency, as well as Apple’s overall recycling performance in 2007."
